Alhaji Gobir describes INEC’s postponement of elections as a blessing in disguise.
Although disappointed by INEC’s last minute postponement of today’s elections, APC Chieftain – Waziri Yakubu Gobir has said it could be a blessing in disguise.
PDP in Kwara State is bankrupt. It has spent billions in the run up to today’s elections to sway voters. This will be difficult to repeat next week.
On the other hand APC is not relying on financial inducement of voters. Men, women, and the youth of Kwara State are genuinely fed up with the current state of affairs and are demanding for change.
Furthermore, there is time to fix, the large scale leak of electoral material. It might be necessary to completely change the ballot papers and introduce security features. INEC should have used NSPMC instead of local suppliers.
It is becoming glaringly obvious that Nigeria’s democracy is still at its infancy. The process is inefficient and expensive. There is an over reliance on cheating, in the form of rigging and violence to win elections. To hell with what the people want.
In the words of Russian dictator, Joseph Stalin ” The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”
All eyes are now on INEC. Let us see how history will judge Prof Mahmoud Yakubu and his team, as this saga unfolds.
